Place the key to the correct spot on the reader. The correct spot is the circle at the bottom of the reader. Hold the key in place for a moment. When the light turns green and you hear a beep, the door is open. If the light turns red, it means your key does not have access rights to that door. If you believe the access rights should be in order, try again.
