Lock groups

Lock groups are used typically when giving a user role access to multiple locks. For example, a lock group could be all of the locks leading to communal spaces in an apartment building.

Granting access to multiple locks can be time-consuming if you assign them one by one for each user role. Lock groups simplify this process by allowing you to bundle locks that are commonly granted access to together. This saves time when setting up user roles.

In addition, it’s good to remember that a lock group consumes the same amount of memory as a single lock in a key fob. As a result, grouping locks allows you to grant access to a large number of locks while maintaining the same minimal memory footprint as one lock, significantly optimizing storage efficiency.

Benefits of using lock groups

  • Simplified access management: Instead of selecting individual locks for each user role, you can assign a lock group in one step.
  • Quick updates: If you add new locks to a lock group, all users with access to that lock group automatically get access to the new locks—no extra steps needed.
  • Optimized key fob memory: Because key fobs have limited memory capacity, using lock groups allows you to assign access to more locks without exceeding memory limits. This makes the system more efficient and ensures users can access all necessary areas with a single key fob.
